Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service San Francisco CA
1053 PM PDT Sun Oct 6 2024

...New AVIATION, MARINE...

.SYNOPSIS...
Issued at 233 AM PDT Sun Oct 6 2024

Impactful heat continues today. Widespread major-to-moderate
HeatRisk, and all Excessive Heat Warnings and Heat Advisories are
in effect until 11 PM tonight. Some relief still coming up through
the beginning of this week.

&&

.UPDATE...
Issued at 740 PM PDT Sun Oct 6 2024

The hot temperatures from today are slowly coming down as
temperatures across the region are still showing temperatures in the
low 90s to upper 80s. Some of the areas that broke their daily
record high temperatures today were San Rafael, Kentfield, San
Francisco Downtown and Airport, Oakland Museum, Redwood City, San
Jose, and Napa State Hospital. On a brighter note, Excessive Heat
Warning conditions are coming to an end tonight as temperatures will
have a gradual cool down on Monday. Temperatures will still remain
warm and above average, thus a Heat Advisory will likely be issued
for tomorrow, especially for inland areas.

SO

&&

.SHORT TERM...
(This evening through Monday)
Issued at 126 PM PDT Sun Oct 6 2024

One more day of widespread Moderate to Major HeatRisk with isolated
areas of Extreme HeatRisk in the higher elevations across the
region. The warmest interior areas will warm up to 105 degrees with
the current temperature in Downtown San Fransico at 92 degrees with
Ocean Beach at 94. This definitely warrants the Excessive Heat
Warning for the city with much of the region under either an
Excessive Heat Warning or Heat Advisory through 11 PM this evening.

Tonight, temperatures are expected to remain very warm in the
region`s higher elevations with 70`s to mid 80`s expected while the
valleys and coastal areas cool into the low-to-upper 60`s.

A Heat Advisory will likely be needed for portions of the region
tomorrow with temperatures remaining well above average for this
time of year. However, temperatures will not be as warm as today
with forecast maximum temperatures in the mid 90`s to near 100
degrees across the interior, upper 80`s to low 90`s Bay Shoreline
and other inland portions of the region, and 70`s to low 80`s near
the immediate coastline.

&&

.LONG TERM...
(Monday night through next Saturday)
Issued at 126 PM PDT Sun Oct 6 2024

Tuesday will begin a cooling trend that will last through late week
as troughing develops over the eastern Pacific. This will allow for
the marine layer to deepen and the eventual return of
overnight/morning low clouds to move into the coastal adjacent
valleys. By the end of the week, we have moderate confidence that
maximum temperatures will be in the 60`s near the coast and 80`s
inland. In addition, a decent plume of moisture associated with a
deeper trough may result in rainfall across the North Bay and as far
south as the Bay Area Friday night and into Saturday. However, there
is a lot that can change between now and then. So be sure to keep up
to date with the latest forecast information.

&&

.AVIATION...
(06Z TAFS)
Issued at 1053 PM PDT Sun Oct 6 2024

VFR through the TAF period. Expect light and variable winds
overnight through the early afternoon. Expect moderate to breezy
winds to build in the mid afternoon and lasting through the evening
and early night before winds reduce.

Vicinity of SFO...VFR through the TAF period. Winds stay light
through early Monday afternoon before breezy westerly winds arrive
for Monday afternoon. Expect gusts around 25 kts to last into the
night before reducing.

SFO Bridge Approach...Similar to SFO.

Monterey Bay Terminals...VFR through the TAF period. Expect light
and variable winds through the night with more moderate winds
arriving Monday afternoon. These winds will last into the evening
before light winds return after nightfall.

&&

.MARINE...
(Tonight through next Saturday)
Issued at 1053 PM PDT Sun Oct 6 2024

Building high pressure over the Eastern Pacific will lead to
increasingly northerly winds. These winds will result in
hazardous conditions for smaller crafter. Additionally, the winds
will produce a steep fresh swell. Breezy northerly flow will
prevail through midweek.
